Thursday 7 January - Pompidou Centre and Trains

The weather did not look too promising this morning.  Mary decided to go to the Pompidou Centre while I decided to look at trains on the other side of the city.
From the Anselm Kiefer exhibit at the Pompidou Centre
I took the metro to Porte de Versailles and was surprised to find bright sun reflecting off the wet pavements.
Avenue de France, tram T3a
My first stop should have been Opherline a model shop close to the river and near the National Library.  After a long walk along the avenue de France I found the store has closed.  A great pity.
Bercy
After taking a look at the enormous government building at Bercy I went to the station and found a couple of locomotives.

The Gare de Lyon was very quiet, both from the number of trains in evidence and from the lack of people.

I took the metro then a tram to Porte de Charenton to look at the Villeneuve TGV maintenance and staging yard.  As usual it was busy but this time the yellow postal TGVs were not in evidence, the trains having ceased to run in the summer.

A quick return to the Gare de Lyon and I took the no. 20 bus to Saint-Lazare which went via the Bastille, Place de la Republique and the Opera.
Puits d'amour - a custard tart encased in caramel.
A Saucisse Lyonais
Mary found the Puits d'amour and the Lyon sausage at the oldest bakery in Paris on the rue Montorgeuil.  The is the only place that bakes Puits d'amour in the city.
